Parabolic Trough, Discritization was created by Jacob
Hi,

For the parabolic trough physical model, I want to check if the SAM model just solves for each SCA for the entire length, or if the SCA is broken down into smaller parts.
The problem is that 115 meters (a length of one of the SCA options within SAM) just seems too long to calculate accurate heat transfer addition to a fluid.
I assume that SAM handles this in some way, but looking at the source code, I have not yet been able to figure out how it's done, so I just want to know how.

Thanks.

Hi Jacob,

The physical trough model calculations are described in Wagner (2011) "Technical Manual for the SAM Physical Trough Model" available for download here sam.nlr.gov/concentrating-solar-power/csp-publications.html . Sections 2.3, 2.4, and 2.5 describe the SCA model.

Best regards,
Paul.
