Collection of case studies or examples?

Hello,

I'm looking to learn more about using SAM through studying worked-out case studies or examples. Is there a collection of case studies, ideally including a text description of the situation and system as well as a SAM file showing how that situation/system could be modeled?

In the "PV Validation" section accessible from the left hand navigation pane of the SAM website I have found a few examples that are similar to what I am looking for. Is there a more complete source of examples/case studies, especially for PV, wind, and battery storage systems? 

Searching through this forum, I found links to  sam.nlr.gov/case-studies from 2018. Obviously, links to sam.nlr.gov no longer work, but even replacing nrel with nrl doesn't turn up anything, nor does a Duck Duck Go search using sam.nlr and case-studies. 

Apologies if I've missed some obvious source of case studies and examples.

Hi Michael,

When you create a new case in SAM, you effectively create a sample file. All of the inputs are populated with default values, and you can click Simulate to expore results of the default case. There are description of the inputs in Help, and the getting started section walks you through the basic steps of running a simulation: samrepo.nlr.gov/help/getting_started.html . For example, to explore an example of a residential PV project, you can create a Detailed PV / Residential case.

The case studies on the PV Validation page of the SAM website may be helpful, but they are based on older versions of SAM:  sam.nlr.gov/photovoltaic/pv-validation.html .

We managed to clean up many of the broken links on the SAM website yesterday, so hopefully you'll have better luck downloading files. Please let us know if you encounter broken links so that we can fix them.

Thanks for your reply. As you suggest, I'll rely on the default values for examples.

Sorry to hear that your team is spending time fixing links due to a change in the organization name. Hope it is not too frustrating.
