Error Message on Wind Project was created by Tsitsi Musasike
Good day
I am trying to run a simulation on the SAM for a hybrid solar, wind an BESS project in Namaqualand, South Africa. I keep getting the error below:
Could not check hub height compared with resource height. This may indicate problem with your weather file.
When I changed the hub height to a Vestas 164 8MW, I get the error message below:
Complete fail hybrid.
Simulation complete fail.
May I kindly request that you review our data (attached) and advise how to fix the problem?
I have attached the data file.
Thank you so much.
Warm regards
Prof. Tsitsi Musasike

Hi Tsitsi,
That message indicates there may be a problem with the format of your wind resource file. Please see the "SAM CSV Format for Wind" topic in help for a description of the format.

If you continue to see the message and would like me to help troubleshoot, please attach a copy of the wind file you are using for this simulation.
Best regards,
Paul.

Hi Tsitsi,
I was able to run a simulation for both cases in your "TEST 4.sam" file with the "TRY 1.csv" wind resource file, so the wind resource file format appears to be correct.
I tested this in SAM 2025.4.16 in Windows. Are you using a different version of SAM or a different operating system?
Also, I did notice a column in the "TRY 1.csv" wind resource file with the heading "air temperature at 10m-60m (C)". This does not follow the format requirement because it includes two heights above the ground. I would either remove that column from the file because there is already a column for air temperature at 60 meters, or change the height from "10m-60m" to "10m".
Best regards,
Paul.

Hi Paul
The student has adjusted the column, but now can't run the simulation despite the file being practically the same. I attached the file. It says the data records are not enough, however I am certain that there are 8760 rows (not counting the headers!). Any ideas on how to proceed?
Thank you so much.
Warm regards

Hi Tsitsi,
I don't think there is a problem with the weather file itself in this case. There seems to be a problem with SAM's ability to open or read the file. A couple of things to try are putting the weather file in a different folder, or seeing if it will work on a different computer.
Best regards,
Paul.
